2. Dostoevsky's The Possessed and Demons are both listed, however these are the same book. Translators have debated over what the correct English translation should be.
I have read a ton of these, and didn’t vote for any personal re-reads…..
EXCEPT for the Boethius idk who you are but whoever put Boethius on this list needs to be my new BFF yes I totally want to re-read it this time maybe in Latin because I am insane let’s do it
Thank you so much for putting this together Jaye!
Not to be that guy, but two little corrections:
1. Life and Fate by Grossman is there twice
2. Dostoevsky's The Possessed and Demons are both listed, however these are the same book. Translators have debated over what the correct English translation should be.
Looking forward to discussing 1948 with everyone!
Also I think 1941 should be 1491, if that’s the book I think it is.
Hahaha
You know I was wondering
So glad that Possessed / Demons made the list. I’d intended to read that last year but totally forgot about it!!
Same!! Jon Podhoretz called it "the greatest novel about politics ever written" last year in the Commentary episode about Luigi Mangione
That’s exactly what put it on my radar! His description of it was really compelling.
Wow. A lot of amazing books on there. Really excellent suggestions, everyone!
If anyone else is a cheapskate (like me in this economy), 1948 is available on JSTOR for your downloadable needs; https://www.jstor.org/stable/j.ctt1np9bm
