Thank you all for your suggestions, nominations, votes, questions, comments, and corrections during our voting process. Here is the 2025 [proposed, subject to change but ideally not too much] reading schedule. Days listed are days we meet to discuss.
March 2nd (see further below) - 1948 - Morris
March 30th - Darkness at Noon - Koestler
June 1st - To Over Throw the World - McMeekin
July 20th - Days of Rage - Burrough
September 28th - Basic Economics - Sowell
December 14th - The World Turned Upside Down - Jisheng
Now, in between those chonker sessions, we’ll meet to discuss the next set of five. In April, Master and Margarita - Bulgakov. In May, Common Sense - Payne. In August, Meditations - Aurelius. In October, The Gulag Archipelago - Solzhenitsyn. And we’ll share November with Demons - Dostoevsky and Time’s Arrow - Amis.
Goals: turning our long, long list down to five is sad and hard, and many had a top pick that didn’t make the cut. So, we’ve added more titles and more meetings. Hopefully, this allows for folks to come and go as they please, based on personal reading schedules and personal life schedules. And also, to set due dates for our large titles, giving readers more flexibility to take as long as they wish to finish certain titles.
I hope to guide these sessions into more freewheeling, semi-focused sessions, talking about ideas and concepts and encouraging others to ask questions, ramble, and bring their open hearts to our meetings.
Will there be a perfect attendance prize at the end of the year? Maybe. Probably.
Here’s the Benny Morris 1948 session meeting link. DM me that afternoon if you are unable to access with just the link provided here.
Any other issues, you know how to find me. I assume, at least, I am extremely online.
Much love in the snek,
Jaye
We be snekking in 2025
Third of the way through “1948”. So much happened I’d never heard about in my life
